Red Dust Racer

Maybe it’s my inner child calling back to watching endless hours of WRC & the Paris-Dakar off road racing, but it has always been a mindset that if a car is covered in dirt then it is infinitely cooler. In a crowd of garage queens and heavily detailed restorations, the car that had my 100% attention at this month’s Cars & Coffee was this.

To be honest I am not entirely sure what it specifically is other than a chassis, straight six and the remnants of a cabin. But this Vintage roller arrived in style fresh from its laps at the Red Dust Revival.

For those unfamiliar with this event, it should be on every car enthusiasts calendar for 2020. Essentially Australia’s answer to Goodwood, but instead of the aristocratic arena of country Britain, the Red Dust Revival takes place in a dried up lake bed in Kalgoorlie, WA. It has historic connections to Australia’s motorsport culture and the recent start up event comes of the success of the Centenary of Speed held a few years ago.

I just love to see a car like this, covered from bumper to bumper in red dust and dried mud. I couldn’t not publish any of this as I feel any car is made cooler covered in mud. Maybe I am simple, or just love seeing things being used properly and not stored away to look at with the shriek of a museum guard “NO TOUCHING” any time you get close to viewing a car.
